New Delhi: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed comprehensive measures to improve the cultivation, processing and marketing of Totapuri mangoes following persistent complaints of falling farmer incomes and declining mandi prices in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at Krishi Bhavan on Wednesday, Chouhan reviewed the challenges faced by Totapuri mango growers and approved key steps based on the recommendations of an expert committee.
The committee conducted field visits to farms, mandis and pulp-processing units to assess the ground situation. Stressing that the exercise would not end with the submission of a report, the minister said the Centre would implement concrete policy, technology and market interventions to strengthen the entire Totapuri mango value chain and improve returns for farmers.
