Following the Trinamool Congress’ major setback in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections, party chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday called on party candidates and workers to rebuild the organisation and remain united.
Addressing a meeting of TMC candidates at her Kalighat residence, attended by the party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata said the party would recover despite its heavy electoral defeat.
She reportedly told party leaders that those who wished to leave the Trinamool Congress were free to do so, while asking loyal workers to focus on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level.
According to party sources, Mamata instructed leaders to restore damaged party offices, repaint them and reopen them across the state. She also assured workers that she would personally participate in rebuilding efforts if necessary.
The TMC chief further alleged that the people’s mandate had been “stolen” and asserted that the party would not surrender despite the setback.
