Summer rains have intensified across Kerala following the formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
A cyclonic circulation has also developed over Lakshadweep and nearby Kerala coast in the Arabian Sea, contributing to widespread rainfall in the state.
The Central Meteorological Department has warned of isolated heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 kmph over the next five days.
Yellow alerts have been issued for several districts in the Malabar region on May 14 and 15. On May 14, alerts are in place for Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts, while on May 15, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Malappuram districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall.
Authorities have advised people to remain cautious while travelling or stepping out during periods of intense rain and thunderstorms.
