KSEB Moves to Tackle Power Crisis by Procuring Additional Electricity

Thiruvananthapuram: With the power crisis in Kerala worsening, the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has decided to procure additional electricity to ensure uninterrupted supply across the state.

KSEB plans to purchase 200 MW of electricity on a round-the-clock basis and has filed a petition before the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) seeking approval to procure power at ₹5.96 per unit. If the proposal is approved, the additional power is expected to be made available within two days.

The Board believes that the procurement of additional electricity will help ease the current power shortage. KSEB is also considering purchasing more electricity at higher rates during the evening peak hours, when electricity demand is at its highest.

Despite these measures, KSEB has stated that load shedding will continue for the time being due to the ongoing power shortage. Officials said that below-normal rainfall this season has significantly reduced water availability in reservoirs, aggravating the state’s electricity crisis.
