Thiruvananthapuram: The Government of Kerala has launched special zero-profit counters to provide transplant medicines at reduced prices for patients who have undergone organ transplant surgeries in the state.
The medicines will be distributed through ‘Karunya Sparsham’ zero-profit counters functioning in 14 selected Karunya Community Pharmacies across Kerala. These counters aim to ensure that life-saving post-transplant medicines are made available to patients at affordable rates.
The state-level inauguration of the project was carried out by Health Minister Veena George at Government Medical College Hospital Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday.
According to the minister, the medicines will be distributed through Karunya Community Pharmacies located in several government hospitals across the state. These include Government Medical College Hospital Thiruvananthapuram, Government Victoria Hospital Kollam, General Hospital Pathanamthitta, Government Medical College Hospital Alappuzha, Government Medical College Hospital Kottayam, Taluk Hospital Nedumkandam, General Hospital Ernakulam, Government Medical College Hospital Thrissur, District Hospital Palakkad, District Hospital Tirur, Government Medical College Hospital Kozhikode, District Hospital Mananthavady, Government Medical College Pariyaram and General Hospital Kasaragod.
Officials said the initiative is expected to significantly reduce the financial burden on transplant patients, who often require lifelong medication following organ transplant surgeries.
