Polling Today in Three Kerala Wards; Vizhinjam Outcome Key to BJP’s Majority Bid

Thiruvananthapuram: Voting is being held today in three local body wards across Kerala, where elections were earlier deferred following the death of candidates. Polling began at 7 am and will continue until 6 pm.

Voters are casting their ballots in the Payimpaadam ward of Moothedam Grama Panchayat in Malappuram district, the Onakkur ward of Pampakuda Grama Panchayat in Ernakulam district, and the Vizhinjam ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Counting of votes in all three wards is scheduled for tomorrow.

The election in Vizhinjam has emerged as a high-stakes contest, especially for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). With 50 seats already in hand, a win in Vizhinjam would give the BJP a simple majority in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation on its own. Currently, the party has been maintaining control of the civic body with the support of an independent councillor.

All eyes are now on Vizhinjam, as the outcome could decisively reshape the political balance in the state capital’s civic administration.
