New Delhi: In a major relief to consumers, prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) will be reduced across India starting January 1, following a revision in the tax structure by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Under the newly introduced uniform tariff system, consumers can expect a price cut of up to ₹3 per unit, with the final reduction varying slightly depending on state taxes. The revised framework simplifies the earlier three-zone distance-based tariff into two zones, bringing down the unified tariff for CNG and domestic PNG to ₹54, significantly lower than the earlier slabs of ₹80 and ₹107. The move will benefit consumers across 312 geographical areas served by 40 city gas distribution companies, offering cost relief to vehicle users relying on CNG and households using PNG for cooking, PNGRB member A.K. Tiwari said.
