Eight More Shigella Cases Confirmed in Kerala; Nipah Contact Completes Quarantine

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has reported eight new cases of Shigella infection, health authorities confirmed on Friday.

Among the new cases, three were reported in Kozhikode, two in Wayanad, and one each in Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Malappuram districts. With the latest additions, the number of Shigella cases reported this month has risen to 180. Six deaths linked to the infection have also been reported during the month.

So far this year, 256 people have been diagnosed with Shigella across the state.

Meanwhile, a person who had been under quarantine after coming into contact with the Nipah patient in Kozhikode has been removed from the monitoring list after successfully completing the 21-day observation period without developing any symptoms. The individual was a co-worker of the Nipah patient.

The Nipah patient continues to receive treatment on ventilator support at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, officials said.
