At least 33 people lost their lives on Wednesday after powerful storms and heavy rainfall lashed several districts of Uttar Pradesh, causing widespread destruction and disruption, officials said.
The worst-hit district was Bhadohi, where 16 deaths were reported. Authorities confirmed nine deaths in Fatehpur, five in Budaun, two in Chandauli and one in Sonbhadra.
The sudden spell of unseasonal rain, thunderstorms and lightning caused damage to homes, trees and power lines in several areas, disrupting normal life.
Following the tragedy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to take immediate relief measures and ensure compensation for the affected families.
Rescue and assessment operations are continuing in the impacted districts as authorities monitor the situation.
