Uttarakhand Cabinet Approves Land Consolidation Policy for Hill Areas

The Uttarakhand cabinet on Wednesday approved the Voluntary/Partial Land Consolidation Incentive Policy, 2026, aimed at promoting agriculture and reducing migration from the state’s hill regions.

The policy seeks to consolidate fragmented landholdings to improve farming activities and strengthen rural livelihoods in hilly districts.

Officials said the government plans to bring 275 villages across 11 hill districts under the land consolidation programme over the next five years. As part of the initiative, consolidation work will be carried out in five villages per district every year.

The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

The state government said the policy is expected to improve agricultural productivity and help address migration from rural hill areas by creating better opportunities for residents.
