New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with African Union Chairperson and Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on Sunday.
The two leaders recalled India’s role in facilitating the African Union’s inclusion in the G20 during India’s presidency in 2023. They emphasised that the India-African Union partnership is a key pillar of cooperation among countries of the Global South and discussed convening the fourth India-Africa Forum Summit at a mutually convenient date.
Prime Minister Modi commended the African Union’s efforts in combating the Ebola outbreak, while President Ndayishimiye appreciated India’s medical support to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
The leaders also reviewed India-Burundi bilateral relations, focusing on economic cooperation, development partnership, agricultural modernisation, healthcare and capacity-building initiatives.
