Patna: Flood conditions in Bihar worsened on Saturday as the Ganga crossed its highest flood mark at Gandhi Ghat in Patna, while floods have affected around 10.26 lakh people across 11 districts of the state.
According to official updates, the Ganga’s water level at Gandhi Ghat rose by 10 cm within four hours amid heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of inundation in several low-lying areas of the state capital.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary directed ministers and senior officials to visit flood-hit areas and closely oversee rescue and relief operations. Officials have also been instructed to remain stationed in affected districts and ensure that assistance reaches people without delay.
The state government has stepped up preparedness as several rivers, including the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi and Ghaghra, are flowing above danger levels in different parts of Bihar. A total of 33 NDRF and SDRF teams, along with nearly 700 government boats, have been deployed for rescue, evacuation and relief operations.
Authorities are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance of river levels and vulnerable embankments as further rainfall could aggravate the flood situation.
