New Delhi: Discussion on the amendment to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act (Women’s Reservation law) continued in Parliament, with deliberations stretching late into the night and expected to culminate in a vote in the Lok Sabha shortly.
During the debate, the government said that concerns and misconceptions raised by members were addressed with detailed explanations, and additional information was provided to clarify doubts. It maintained that objections from various quarters had been discussed and resolved.
Calling for broad political support, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged all parties to take a considered and sensitive decision in favour of women’s reservation. He noted that the issue had been debated politically for decades and stressed that it was time to ensure rightful representation for women.
Highlighting the low participation of women in decision-making even decades after Independence, the Prime Minister appealed to members to vote in support of the amendment, stating that millions of women across the country were closely watching the outcome.
The Lok Sabha is expected to take up voting on the bill soon.
