Two Killed, Thousands Evacuated After Earthquake Hits Southern China

A strong earthquake struck southern China early Monday, killing two people, injuring several others and forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents.

According to state media reports, the 5.2-magnitude quake hit the Guangxi region, causing damage to buildings and triggering panic among residents in several areas.

Authorities said four people sustained injuries in the earthquake, while more than 7,000 residents were evacuated from Liuzhou as a precautionary measure.

Rescue teams carried out search operations for people feared trapped under debris. Officials later confirmed that the final missing person, a 91-year-old man, was found alive and in stable condition around midday on Monday, bringing the rescue operation to an end.

The earthquake caused structural damage to several buildings, though officials are still assessing the full extent of the destruction. Emergency response teams continue to monitor the affected areas for possible aftershocks.
