Kerala High Court Lifts Ban on Pappanji Burning at Veli for New Year’s Eve, Mandates Safety Measures

In a significant decision, the Kerala High Court has lifted the ban on the traditional Pappanji burning ceremony at Veli Ground in kochi on New Year’s Eve. The court’s ruling comes as a relief to event organizers and cultural enthusiasts, ensuring the continuation of this cherished annual tradition.

However, the court has imposed strict safety measures to ensure public safety during the event. Key directives include extending the distance from the base of the effigy to the safety barricade to at least 70 feet, ensuring proper fire safety equipment, and deploying trained personnel to manage the event.

The Pappanji burning ceremony, symbolic of bidding farewell to the old year and welcoming the new one with hope and positivity, draws large crowds every year.

The Kerala High Court emphasized that while cultural traditions must be preserved, public safety cannot be compromised. Event organizers have been directed to comply with all safety protocols and coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure a smooth and secure celebration.

The lifting of the ban paves the way for a grand New Year’s Eve celebration at Veli Ground, promising an event filled with tradition, festivity, and enhanced safety measures.
