Tamil Nadu registered a record voter turnout in the Assembly elections on Thursday, with over 84 per cent of eligible voters casting their ballots across 234 constituencies.
According to the Election Commission of India, the state recorded 84.29 per cent polling till 6 PM, surpassing its previous highest turnout of 78.29 per cent recorded during the 2011 Assembly elections.
Out of the total 5.73 crore voters, a significant number participated in the electoral process, reflecting strong voter engagement across the state. Polling was held smoothly in most parts, despite reports of long queues at several booths.
Officials noted that the high turnout indicates increased public participation in the democratic process, marking a significant milestone in the state’s electoral history.
