Six More Shigella Cases Confirmed in Kerala; Nipah Situation Shows Improvement

Thiruvananthapuram: Six more cases of Shigella infection have been confirmed in Kerala on Thursday. Two cases each were reported from Alappuzha and Kollam districts, while one case each was detected in Thiruvananthapuram and Wayanad.

With the latest additions, the total number of Shigella cases reported in the state this month has risen to 172. Authorities have also reported six deaths linked to the infection during the month. So far this year, 248 people have been diagnosed with the disease.

Meanwhile, there is some relief regarding the Nipah virus situation. Health officials said no new Nipah infections have been reported in the two weeks since the latest case was detected, easing immediate concerns. Test results of 15 people who were on the contact list have all returned negative, indicating no further spread of the virus at present.
