Severe Flooding Devastates Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: 19 Dead, Thousands Evacuated

The states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are grappling with catastrophic flooding triggered by relentless heavy rainfall. So far, the disaster has claimed 19 lives—9 in Andhra Pradesh and 10 in Telangana—while displacing over 17,000 residents. The downpour, driven by a low-pressure system, has wreaked havoc, leading to massive flooding that has paralyzed transportation, with around 140 trains canceled or diverted.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts, signaling the potential for even more severe rainfall, particularly in vulnerable districts like Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Khammam. In Hyderabad, the situation is dire, with schools and colleges shut down due to widespread waterlogging. Authorities have urged residents in low-lying areas to evacuate to safer ground.

In response to the escalating crisis, 26 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed for rescue and relief efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have pledged full support from the central government as the states brace for further challenges in the days ahead.
