Kolkata: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will inaugurate a two-day orientation programme for newly elected members of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on July 3 in Kolkata.
The inaugural session will be attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, and other dignitaries.
The programme will feature technical sessions on legislative procedures, parliamentary customs and conventions, committee systems, financial business, parliamentary privileges, ethics, good governance, and the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). The sessions will be led by presiding officers, Members of Parliament, constitutional experts, and parliamentary practitioners.
Organised jointly by the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) and the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, the programme aims to strengthen legislators’ understanding of parliamentary functioning and democratic governance. It will conclude on July 4 with the valedictory address by West Bengal Governor R. N. Ravi.
