Seven Killed, Several Hospitalised After Ammonia Leak at Fish Processing Unit in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: At least seven people were killed and several others injured following an ammonia gas leak at a private fish processing factory in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district on Sunday.

The incident occurred at a fish processing unit in Manjankaran near Periyapalayam. According to officials, workers lost consciousness after ammonia leaked from the facility.

Around 40 people have been admitted to hospital for treatment, while the condition of nine others remains critical. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, but seven workers succumbed despite medical efforts.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and said measures are being coordinated to contain the ammonia leak and prevent further harm. Rescue and emergency response teams remain at the site.
