The southwest monsoon has weakened across Kerala, with weather experts attributing the decline in rainfall to the strengthening of the El Niño phenomenon over the Pacific Ocean.
According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected to remain below normal during July and August as well. A reduction in rainfall is also anticipated in several other Asian countries due to the prevailing weather pattern.
A yellow alert has been issued for four districts in the state today — Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam — indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
However, no rain warnings have been issued for Kerala from tomorrow onwards. Strong winds with speeds of up to 40 kmph are also likely in some areas.
Authorities have advised the public to remove or secure dry and weakened trees that may pose a risk to people and property during strong winds.
