Prime Minister Narendra Modi proudly highlighted the remarkable 2,500-year-old history of Vadnagar, Gujarat, emphasizing the government’s dedicated efforts to preserve and celebrate the town’s ancient legacy.
Echoing the Prime Minister’s sentiments, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Vadnagar Archaeological Museum, a ₹300 crore project that vividly showcases the city’s ancient history. Recent archaeological discoveries have traced Vadnagar’s origins back to around 800 BCE, reflecting India’s unbroken cultural continuity for over 5,500 years. The city has witnessed the rise and fall of diverse rulers, including the Mauryans, Indo-Greeks, Indo-Scythians, Hindu-Solankis, Sultanate-Mughals, and Gaekwad-British colonial powers, symbolizing its rich multicultural and multireligious heritage.
