New Delhi: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal concluded a five-day visit to Spain, Belgium, Finland, and Estonia, aimed at strengthening India’s economic partnership with Europe following the successful conclusion of India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
During the visit, Goyal held high-level meetings with ministers, government leaders, and business executives to promote trade, investment, technology cooperation, and business partnerships.
In Spain, both sides agreed to explore interoperability between India’s UPI and Spain’s Bizum digital payment platform and identified opportunities in automobiles, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and infrastructure.
In Belgium, Goyal co-chaired the 3rd India-EU Trade and Technology Council Ministerial Meeting, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the early signing and implementation of the India-EU FTA. Discussions also covered investment protection, market access, and climate-related trade issues.
In Finland, talks focused on expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technology, clean energy, innovation, and advanced manufacturing. Goyal also invited Finnish companies to increase investments in India.
In Estonia, the two countries explored collaboration in digital governance, fintech, cybersecurity, UPI integration, and emerging technologies, while Estonia expressed support for the early implementation of the India-EU FTA.
The visit is expected to strengthen India-Europe economic ties, boost technology partnerships, attract investments, and expand market access for Indian businesses.
