Former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will take over as the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly.
This will be the first time that Pinarayi Vijayan assumes the role of Opposition leader. The decision was taken at the CPIM state committee meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram.
The announcement came shortly after the Congress high command selected V D Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala.
With the new appointments, Satheesan and Pinarayi Vijayan are set to face each other once again in the Assembly, but in reversed roles. Satheesan, who had been serving as Leader of the Opposition, will now move to the treasury benches as Chief Minister, while Pinarayi Vijayan will occupy the opposition benches after serving as Chief Minister for the past ten years.
