Mumbai will be placed under heightened security on Friday as more than 24,000 police personnel are set to be deployed across the city for the final Ganesh immersion processions, officials said.
The immersions, scheduled on Anant Chaturdashi, will mark the conclusion of the Ganesh festival, which began on September 14.
Large crowds of devotees are expected to take part in the processions and immersion ceremonies at various locations across the city.
According to a Mumbai Police statement, the security arrangements will include six Joint Commissioners of Police, nine Additional Commissioners, 38 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 66 Assistant Commissioners of Police.
The deployment will also comprise 3,213 police officers, 18,940 other security personnel and 1,050 trainees, with the police and Traffic Department jointly overseeing crowd management and traffic regulation.
Authorities said the extensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure the immersion processions are conducted safely and smoothly amid the large public turnout expected on the festival’s concluding day.
