Muslim League Extends Support to TVK; Vijay Set to Form Government in Tamil Nadu

he Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has extended support to Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, helping the party reach the majority mark required to form the government in Tamil Nadu.

With support from the CPI, CPI(M), VCK and Muslim League, TVK has crossed the crucial 118-member majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. TVK had won 107 seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections and was short of the required numbers.

Earlier, the Congress party had also announced support to TVK, taking the alliance tally closer to a majority. The latest backing from Left parties and IUML has now strengthened Vijay’s claim to form the next government in the state.

Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Friday and staked claim to form the government after securing the required support. Reports said he is expected to take oath as Chief Minister on Saturday.
