The annual trawling ban along the Kerala coast came into effect on Wednesday, imposing restrictions on mechanised fishing operations for the next 52 days.
Under the ban, fishing activities are prohibited within 12 nautical miles from the shore until July 31. The measure is aimed at protecting marine resources and allowing fish stocks to breed and regenerate during the monsoon season.
Traditional fishing vessels and non-mechanised boats are exempt from the restrictions and can continue their operations.
As part of the enforcement measures, the movement and anchoring of mechanised fishing boats have been prohibited in several coastal areas, including the western side of Neendakara Bridge, Thangassery, and Azhikkal Harbour.
Authorities have intensified monitoring along the coast to ensure strict compliance with the ban, which is implemented annually to support sustainable fishing and marine conservation.
