Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is considering amending the existing anti-ragging law to include stricter provisions, Higher Education Minister R. Bindu informed the Assembly. The move aims to strengthen measures against ragging in educational institutions across the state.
Speaking in the Assembly, the minister highlighted that anti-ragging committees had already been established in all higher education institutions as per the UGC Regulations on Curbing the Menace of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions, 2009. However, recent incidents have prompted the government to review the law and explore amendments for more stringent enforcement.
The proposed changes may include tougher penalties and improved monitoring mechanisms to prevent ragging on campuses. The minister assured that the government is committed to ensuring a safe academic environment for students and will take necessary legal steps to curb ragging effectively.
More details on the proposed amendments are expected soon as discussions progress within the government and educational authorities.
