Washington: In the most recent opinion polls for the US presidential election, Vice President and Democratic Party nominee Kamala Harris has taken a significant lead over her Republican rival, Donald Trump. According to the Reuters poll results published on August 29, Harris is ahead by 4 percentage points, securing 45% of the vote compared to Trump’s 41%.
Trump, seemingly frustrated by these numbers, has resorted to personal attacks, accusing Harris of having “elastic morality” and referencing her past relationship with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. These attacks have been criticized by leaders within the Republican Party as unbecoming of a presidential candidate.
This shift in the race comes after President Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race in July, leading to Harris’s nomination as the Democratic candidate. Harris’s selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate has further strengthened her position, posing a significant challenge to Trump’s path back to the White House.
As Harris continues to gain momentum, political analysts predict that the gap between her and Trump could widen further by the end of October, potentially giving her a double-digit lead.
