New Delhi: BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on Tuesday accused the Opposition of displaying “selective outrage” over examination paper leaks, asserting that such incidents had also occurred during the Congress-led UPA government.
Participating in the debate on the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha, Swaraj said the proposed legislation is aimed at ensuring faster prosecution and stricter punishment for those involved in examination malpractices.
Calling the Bill a significant step towards safeguarding the integrity of public examinations, she said it reflects the Modi government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s examination system through structural reforms.
“This is a transformative amendment. It is not just necessary but the need of the hour. It demonstrates the responsible approach of the Modi government,” Swaraj said during the debate.
The BJP leader maintained that the government has taken concrete measures to curb examination fraud and improve transparency, while criticizing the Opposition for what she described as inconsistent criticism over paper leak incidents.
