The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast heavy rainfall in more than 15 districts of Tamil Nadu as conditions remain favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over the next three to four days.
According to the latest weather bulletin issued on Thursday, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph is likely in several parts of the state.
The districts expected to receive heavy rainfall include Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Theni, Dindigul, Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai. The Western Ghats regions are also likely to experience intense rainfall activity.
The weather office further stated that the widespread rain is expected to bring down maximum temperatures gradually across Tamil Nadu, as well as the Union Territories of Puducherry and Karaikal, between June 11 and June 14.
Authorities have advised residents in the affected districts to remain alert and take necessary precautions in view of the forecast of heavy rain and strong winds.
