Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala have continued their downward trend for the second day in a row, registering a total drop of ₹1,400 per sovereign (8 grams) over the weekend. After Saturday’s sharp ₹1,200 fall, prices dipped again by ₹200 today.
With the latest decline, the price of one sovereign now stands at ₹71,640, while the rate per gram is ₹8,955 — down by ₹25.
The drop comes unexpectedly, especially at a time when the market was anticipating a fresh surge in gold prices that could break previous records. Just recently, rates had crossed the ₹73,000 mark but have now slipped below ₹72,000.
Experts cite factors like the rise in the stock market, the Reserve Bank of India’s policy cues, and volatility in global markets as major influences behind the ongoing slide in gold prices.
