End of an Era: Virat Kohli Announces Retirement from Test Cricket

Mumbai – In a heartfelt announcement that marks the close of a legendary chapter in Indian cricket, Virat Kohli has officially retired from Test cricket. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Rohit Sharma’s own Test exit, signaling a generational shift in Indian cricket’s leadership and legacy.

Kohli, who wore the whites for 14 unforgettable years, leaves behind a legacy carved in grit, passion, and sheer excellence. Featuring in 123 Tests for India, the former captain amassed 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 — making him the fourth-highest run-scorer in Indian Test history, trailing only the greats: Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar.

His phenomenal career includes 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, with a career-best knock of 254 against South Africa standing as a testament to his dominance at the crease.

“Test cricket shaped who I am. I gave it everything, and in return, it gave me more than I ever imagined,” Kohli shared in an emotional Instagram post. “Walking away isn’t easy, but I know this is the right time.”

Falling just 770 runs short of the iconic 10,000-run mark, Kohli’s exit is more than a statistic — it’s the end of an era, a farewell to a warrior who wore the Baggy Blue with pride and passion.
