In a landmark decision, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the formation of the 8th Pay Commission to revise the salaries and allowances of central government employees and pensioners.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the Commission will soon appoint its chairman and two members. It will consult with central and state governments, along with key stakeholders, to develop comprehensive recommendations.
Traditionally set up every decade, the Pay Commission reviews salary structures to align with economic shifts. The 7th Pay Commission was formed in 2016, with its term ending in 2026. The 8th Pay Commission’s upcoming proposals are expected to impact over 4.9 million central government employees and nearly 6.5 million pensioners.
This move highlights the government’s dedication to ensuring fair compensation that reflects the rising cost of living and evolving economic conditions. The Commission’s recommendations are set to play a pivotal role in shaping future pay structures and employee benefits.
