Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday took oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly on the opening day of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly.
The oath was administered by Protem Speaker Chandra Mohan Patowary. Himanta Biswa Sarma took the oath in the Assamese language.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandra Mohan Patowary said MLAs are free to take oath in any recognised language of their choice and can submit copies of their oath to the Assembly office.
Following the Chief Minister, other newly elected legislators also began taking oath in different languages including Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and Sanskrit.
