Srinagar: The annual Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes following forecasts of widespread heavy rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days.
Authorities announced that no pilgrims will be allowed to proceed from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps in Kashmir, as well as the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu, until further notice.
The decision was taken as a precautionary measure after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted adverse weather conditions that could affect the safety of pilgrims.
Officials said the suspension came into effect on July 19, 2026, and emphasized that the move was made to ensure the safety and well-being of devotees undertaking the annual pilgrimage.
Pilgrims have been advised to follow official updates and wait for further instructions before resuming their journey.
