GST Reforms Put ₹2 Lakh Crore Back in People’s Hands, Says FM Nirmala Sitharaman

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has highlighted that nearly ₹2 lakh crore is now staying with the people due to GST reforms, strengthening domestic consumption and giving a fresh boost to the economy.

Explaining the impact, she said the government is not taking this sum as taxes, allowing it to remain with citizens and businesses, thereby driving demand and growth.

“Instead of going to the exchequer, this money flows back into the economy, creating opportunities for consumption and business expansion,” the Minister stated.

FM further underlined that GST has simplified India’s tax structure, improved compliance, widened the tax base, and made the system more transparent, ensuring both consumers and businesses benefit.
