Thrissur: Torrential rains in Kerala’s high-range areas have caused water levels in major dams to surge. At the Sholayar Dam, levels have reached 96% of capacity, prompting officials to raise the spillway shutter by half a foot to manage the inflow.
The Peringalkuthu Dam has also responded to the rising levels by opening its sluice valve, resulting in a noticeable increase in the Chalakudy River’s water level, which now stands at 3.5 meters.
Authorities have issued a cautionary alert to residents living along the riverbanks, urging them to stay vigilant. However, officials assured the public that there is currently no immediate danger.
