20,000 Indian Students Skip Canadian Colleges in 2024, Prompting Policy Review

In a concerning trend, around 20,000 Indian students were among nearly 50,000 international students who failed to comply with their Canadian study permits in 2024, as revealed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

These “no-show” students, who did not attend their assigned educational institutions, accounted for 5.4% of the Indian student population tracked by IRCC.

This surge in non-compliance has sparked alarm over the integrity of Canada’s international education system and the effectiveness of its immigration policies.

In response, the Canadian government is expected to review and tighten regulations to safeguard its global reputation as a premier destination for international students.
