Supreme Court Dismisses Case Against Isha Foundation as Women Assert Free Will

The Supreme Court of India has closed a habeas corpus petition filed against the Isha Foundation after two women involved confirmed they were staying at the foundation voluntarily. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud remarked, “We spoke to both the ladies, and they affirmed they are living there on their own free will. Therefore, we are closing the plea.”

The case stemmed from accusations that the women were being held against their will at the foundation. However, after personal interactions with the women, the court found no grounds to proceed, reinforcing the women’s right to autonomy and independent decision-making regarding their living situation. The dismissal highlights the court’s acknowledgment of personal freedom and choice.
