Thiruvananthapuram: The Keralam government will take stringent action against bars that serve alcohol to people below the legal drinking age of 23, Excise Minister M. Liju told the state Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a question raised by Ernakulam MLA T. J. Vinod regarding the Mini Cooper crash near Kochi on Sunday that claimed the lives of three youngsters, the minister said the Excise Department had registered cases against three bars for allegedly serving alcohol to the accused persons, who were below the prescribed age.
“The state government will not compromise on this issue under any circumstances,” Liju said.
The government’s announcement comes amid concerns over the alleged violation of age restrictions on alcohol consumption following the fatal accident.
