The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rainfall across Kerala on Wednesday, prompting authorities to issue weather alerts and declare holidays for educational institutions in several districts.
An Orange Alert has been issued for nine districts—Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod—indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
A Yellow Alert is in effect for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.The IMD has also warned that the wet spell is expected to continue over the coming days and advised the public to remain vigilant.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, district administrations have declared a holiday for educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Wayanad, Alappuzha, Idukki, Kasaragod, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur districts.
Authorities have urged residents to follow official advisories, avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas and take all necessary precautions as heavy rainfall continues across the state.
