Wayanad: Rescue teams on Sunday recovered the body of the last person who had been reported missing in the Kalladi landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad district, bringing the death toll in the tragedy to eight.
The deceased has been identified as Vikram Rana, a construction manager. His body was recovered during an intensive search operation carried out in the second search zone and the nearby river.
Five people had initially been reported missing following the landslide. The recovery of bodies began on the third day after the incident, with the final victim found about 200 metres from Meenakshi Bridge.
Meanwhile, the Kerala government has constituted a five-member committee to investigate the circumstances that led to the landslide.
The committee has been tasked with identifying the causes of the disaster, examining whether the contractors complied with the prescribed safety and environmental regulations during the construction work, and reviewing the environmental clearances granted by the Central and State governments for the project.
The findings of the committee are expected to determine whether any lapses contributed to the tragedy and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
