India Condemns Attack on Merchant Vessel Off Oman Coast, Calls for End to Shipping Strikes

New Delhi: India on Sunday strongly condemned the attack on the merchant vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, stressing that attacks targeting civilian shipping and critical infrastructure in the region must cease immediately.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that 11 Indian nationals were on board the vessel at the time of the attack. Of them, 10 have been rescued, while one Indian national remains missing.

“We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman earlier today. Of the 11 Indian nationals on board, 10 have been rescued so far, while one Indian national is reportedly missing,” the MEA said in an official statement.

India reiterated its concern over the increasing threats to maritime security and emphasised the need to ensure the safety of civilian vessels operating in international waters.

The government also called for an immediate end to attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure, highlighting the importance of maintaining peace, stability and the free flow of maritime trade in the region.

The MEA said Indian authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are in touch with the relevant agencies regarding the missing crew member and the safety of those rescued.
