Kochi: Police have initiated steps to cancel the bail granted to the 17-year-old accused in the Cheranalloor road accident case. An application has been filed before the Ernakulam Sessions Court, while the District Crime Branch has taken over the investigation.
Police questioned the minor’s father, a judge who is the registered owner of the Mercedes-Benz car involved in the accident. The questioning took place at his flat in Companypady, Aluva. The judge reportedly told the police that his son had driven the vehicle without his knowledge. The judge has also been named as an accused in the case as the registered owner of the car.
Meanwhile, the Motor Vehicles Department is considering steps to prevent the minor from obtaining a driving licence until the age of 25 under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Authorities are also planning to suspend the registration certificate of the Mercedes-Benz car involved in the accident.
A decision on further action in the case is expected on Tuesday. ADGP P. Vijayan is scheduled to reach Kochi to coordinate the next steps. Police personnel who allegedly failed to register the FIR promptly during the initial stage of the case may also face disciplinary action.
The High Court will be informed that the judge, as the registered owner of the vehicle, has been named as an accused, according to reports.
Meanwhile, the family of Jayabalakrishnan has decided to resume its protest if no action is taken against the police personnel responsible for the alleged lapses by 4 pm on Tuesday.
