New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday presented the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowships and Awards for 2024 and 2025 to eminent artists in New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, the President said the honoured artists collectively represent India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. She highlighted the importance of preserving folk and tribal art forms, many of which face the threat of extinction.
Murmu stressed the role of the Guru-Shishya tradition in passing artistic knowledge to future generations and urged senior artists to systematically groom young talent. She said folk and tribal arts reflect India’s deep connection with nature and form an important foundation of the country’s cultural identity.
Congratulating the awardees, she described them as guardians of India’s collective cultural memory and expressed confidence that the Sangeet Natak Akademi would continue to strengthen India’s cultural soft power globally.
