PM Modi Condoles Demise of Veteran Playback Singer S. Janaki

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the demise of legendary playback singer S. Janaki, describing her passing as an irreparable loss to the world of music and culture.

S. Janaki, one of India’s most celebrated playback singers, passed away on Saturday at a private hospital in Mysuru due to age-related ailments. She was 88.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the iconic singer, saying her songs gave voice to every emotion with unparalleled grace and versatility.

“The passing of the distinguished playback singer S. Janaki Amma is an irreparable loss to the world of music and culture,” the Prime Minister said.

Known for her extraordinary career spanning several decades, S. Janaki captivated generations of music lovers with her soulful voice and remarkable versatility, recording thousands of songs in multiple Indian languages. Her contribution to Indian cinema and music earned her widespread admiration and numerous national and state honours.

Her demise has prompted an outpouring of tributes from political leaders, members of the film industry, musicians, and fans across the country, who remembered her as one of the greatest voices in Indian playback music.
