Typhoon Bavi Makes Landfall on China’s East Coast; Emergency Measures Intensified

Beijing: Chinese authorities have intensified emergency response measures across several cities, including the capital Beijing, after Typhoon Bavi made landfall on the country’s eastern coast late Saturday.

According to the Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Observatory, Bavi—the ninth typhoon to hit China this year—made landfall at around 11:20 p.m. in Yuhuan City, located in Zhejiang Province.

The typhoon struck with maximum sustained wind speeds of 40 metres per second at its centre, prompting authorities to strengthen disaster preparedness and emergency response efforts in vulnerable regions.

Officials are closely monitoring the storm’s movement as it is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and potential disruptions to transportation and daily life in several parts of eastern China.
