HYDERABAD: The Telangana Cabinet on Thursday decided to implement the Centre’s new rural employment scheme, VB-G RAM G, which has replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), while simultaneously approaching the Supreme Court to safeguard the state’s rights.
Addressing a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Telangana Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy alleged that the Centre introduced the new legislation unilaterally, despite objections from state governments, workers, and other stakeholders.
He said the Cabinet had resolved to challenge the new law before the Supreme Court to protect Telangana’s interests, even as the state proceeds with the implementation of the scheme.
