ICG Rescues Six Fishermen After Boat Damaged Off Karnataka Coast

New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Tuesday rescued all six crew members of an Indian fishing boat that suffered severe flooding and hull damage in rough seas off the Karnataka coast.

According to officials, the fishing boat ‘Manju Matha’ encountered trouble about 33 nautical miles off the Surathkal coast after being battered by adverse weather conditions.

The rescue operation began on Monday evening after the Coast Guard ship ICGS Sachet received a distress call reporting that the vessel was taking in water and had sustained significant hull damage, putting the lives of all six fishermen in immediate danger.

Despite the challenging sea conditions, the Coast Guard successfully rescued the crew using remote-operated lifebuoys, a specialised rescue system designed for operations in extreme maritime conditions.

All six fishermen were brought to safety, and the Indian Coast Guard said the swift response helped avert a major tragedy at sea.
